Some students who plan to transfer to another school after graduation from Butler and want to take classes that do not necessarily apply to their major here at Butler, but will transfer to their next school, will no longer receive financial aid assistance for these classes if they do not apply to their Butler pathway, according to the Early FAQ for students provided by the Office of Financial Aid.
These students are still able to take those classes, but they will have to pay for them on their own without any assistance from financial aid and these classes will not be included in the student’s financial aid enrollment status.
This is called the CPoS, or Course Program of Study, and has actually been a regulation; however, the technology used to monitor efficiently this has not been available, which will be enforced in the Spring 2020 semester, so this will affect students who are currently enrolling.
This implementation of CPoS, also called the ‘Payment by Program,’ will affect students who receive financial aid in the forms of Pell Grant, student loans, Federal Work Study and SEOG.
These changes will not affect students who receive school scholarships.
Some students are displeased with the changes, while some have noticed it will not necessarily affect them as they thought it would.
“I think financial aid should cover your education,” freshman Makenzie Curry said. “The education you’re getting from the school, which in my opinion also include your electives, so I don’t agree with how they made it.”
Students who have concerns may talk to an adviser, which may help ease some stress or worry.
“I thought the financial aid changes would affect me greatly,” sophomore Rachel Walker said. “However, after talking to my adviser, I learned it won’t affect me at all as long as I take my classes required for my major, my classes will still be covered by financial aid.”
Students who think one of their courses should be included in their pathway, but it is not can contact academic advising and petition that course to see if it can be applied to their pathway.
