Students now have a new pathway to receive a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering, while saving over $16,000 by attending Butler for the first two years. Butler and Wichita State University have signed an articulation agreement for a 2+2 agreement that completes a four-year study of biomedical engineering between Butler’s pre-engineering and WSU’s College of engineering school. The signing ceremony was Tuesday, Dec. 17, at Butler’s 5000 building in Andover.
Mel Whiteside, dean of science, technology, engineering and math, comments on the articulation agreement with WSU.

“We’re really excited for our students,” Whiteside said. “It is so beneficial for the students knowing they can come to Butler, and complete their first two years and transfer to WSU with all the credits.”

The agreement went into effect immediately. Students in the pathway are encouraged to visit with an advice and map out classes needed to transfer to WSU with all 64 credits. Butler students graduating with an associate of science in pre-engineering with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 and fulfill the appropriate application requirements will be guaranteed admission to the engineering of college.

President Kim Krull explains that Butler is the number one community college for students to transfer over to WSU.

“We have a strong relationship with WSU,” Krull said. “One third of the college of engineering are Butler graduates. Students will know they can start at Butler, save money and transfer to WSU with all 64 credits.”

Butler has 25 articulation agreements in place with WSU and has more set for the upcoming semester. Butler and WSU have more program articulations than any other college in the region. Students can ask advice whether they have any articulations in place with WSU for their pathway.

Jennifer Muñoz, a freshman at Butler starting the biomedical pre-engineering pathway, and is proud to be a student at Butler.

“I am proud to be at Butler, “Muñoz said. “My teachers actually care about me and teaching the curriculum compared to a university. I knew I wanted to do something in biomedical engineering, and now that I know Butler has an agreement with WSU pushes me even more now. I will be saving money and working toward a career I love.”

Students interested in the biomedical pre-engineering program can contact Butler’s admission by telephone at (316)733-3255 or by email admissions@butlercc.edu. Students can visit the website butlercc.edu to find more information on majors and pathways.
