Track sprints away with titles

With the Region VI meet coming to an end, both the men’s and women’s track and field teams finished strong with the women’s team finishing one of their best performances in a long time.

The women’s team was able to get three runners in 1st place, 2nd place in four events and 3rd in five events. The women’s team finished 3rd overall in the tournament with a score of 123 points. They were outscored by Barton County who had 169 points and Cloud County who finished with 128 points. They finished the season as the East KJCCC champions and 3rd in the Region VI tournament.

As for the men’s team, they were able to finish 2nd in the KJCCC East, and 5th place in the Region VI tournament. They finished behind Cloud County with 151 points who won the tournament, Barton County with 131 points, Coffeyville with 113 points, Hutchinson who had 82 points and finally Butler who finished the tournament off with 80 points.

Shanique Masters was named Female Athlete of the Meet. She finished 1st in the 600m and 1st in the 800m. Master’s also finished 2nd in the Distance Medley Relay and finally, rounding it off, she finished 3rd in the 4×800 Relay.

Women’s Coach Dustin Mettler got the award for ‘Coach of the Year’.

The Distance Medley Relay team took 2nd place with the runners being Xavier, Ragsdale, Armbrister and Tovar.

Nick Lowe had two big performances, getting 5th in shot put and also getting 8th in the weight throw.

Tard Smith Jr. came in at 4th place in the 60 meter hurdles.

Michelle Sanchez was an outstanding runner this week. She placed 2nd in the Distance Medley Relay team, 3rd in the 4×800 Relay, 4th in the 5000m and 5th in the 3000m.

Kaleb McDonald was another outstanding runner this week getting herself 3rd in the 200m as well as getting 4th in the 400m and 5th in the 60m.

Zadie St. Louis got a medal in every event she was apart in this week getting 2nd in the 800m and the Distance Medley Relay and getting 3rd in the 4×800 Relay and 600m.

Ollie McGee, Zavier Jackson and Jeremy McDowell are the Butler Grizzlies sprinting core with McGee finishing 3rd, Jackson finishing 4th, and McDowell finishing 7th in the 60m dash.

Agerian Jackson ran for his life, getting 1st in the 600m run and getting 3rd in the 400m.
Linesha Thompson was able to get runner-up in the 60m and runner-up in the 200m and was able to get 3rd in the 400m.
