Valentine settles into new position

The information technology department made an addition to their staff in early December upon hiring its new Executive Assistant Ali Valentine. Valentine grew up in the small town of Belle Plaine and graduated from Wichita Heights after moving to Wichita her sophomore year.

Valentine is currently working towards her business degree through Butler. Between that and her attraction to Butler’s friendly atmosphere, she knew that Butler would be a good fit for her.

“I have friends and family that have worked for Butler, and they had spoken nothing but high things about it,” Valentine said. “They said it was a great place for growth and that’s something I was looking for.”

Valentine’s duties include managing schedules and making travel plans for the department– “pretty much anything they need me to do, I’m just here to help everybody.” She is the assistant to the Vice President of IT Bill Young and according to her, she “just does anything that the big man tells her to.”

In the past, Valentine has been involved in multiple fields of work including retail and medical with Mid-Kansas Ear Nose and Throat as an assistant doing similar tasks that she does here at Butler.

Her decision to pursue a business degree comes from its stability, something that she values when raising her four children.

“I want to make sure that I have a good career and provide a good foundation for my kids,” Valentine said. “You know, make a good living to provide for them and give them the best life.”

Though Valentine has had to make some adjustments to settle into her new job, she said that the people surrounding her have made this transition easier.

“I really like the morale of the place,” Valentine said. “I like that it’s so accommodating to family and family being an important thing. I’ve never worked with such pleasant people.”

When she’s not busy at work, Valentine is kept busy with her children and their activities and enjoys traveling when she has time.
