Staff Writer

The newest Disney-Pixar movie installment, Onward, released Friday, March 6 and follows the magical quest two brothers go on to spend one more day with their late dad. The movie was only in theaters for a short period of time before theaters shut down nationwide, so it was then released to buy or rent on on-demand and had an early release to Disney Plus on Monday, April 6.

The film features the voice talents of well-known stars such as Tom Holland, Chris Pratt, Octavia Spencer and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Onward begins by stating that the world was once full of magic, but over time it had been forgotten, and although many magical creatures still exist everything is modernized. Two teenage elven brothers, Ian Lightfoot (Holland) and Barley Lightfoot (Pratt), are given the gift of a magical staff from their late father on Ian’s 16th birthday to bring him back to see the boys for one whole day.

The magic spell does not end up going right, so the two brothers set out on a quest to fix it before time runs out. On the way, they encounter many different challenges all the while becoming closer as brothers.

Disney and Pixar are known for producing fun, family-friendly featured films, and Onward is yet another example of this. This film is full of excitement, heart and magic that anyone could enjoy.

It is also fun getting to hear the vocal talents of Tom Holland and Chris Pratt, who lead the screen and create a great performance together. The two sound electric, so much so that it would be great to see them in another project together again.

The story is fun and keeps you interested from scene to scene. It is well-written in a way that pulls you into the adventure of it all.

Not only is the storyline well-written, but the animation, score and scene composition are very well-done also. The animation is clear, realistic and colorful, paired with a wonderfully done score, it matches the story perfectly. There are also some cool transitions between scenes, adding to the magic of it all.

There are moments that really tug at your emotions, which is something Pixar is known for. All together it creates an even more compelling story that could even hit close to home for some people, connecting you even closer to the story.

Overall, Onward is a feel-good movie that I would recommend to anyone. It is sweet, heartfelt and exciting. I even ended up watching it multiple times over the span of just one weekend. If you like Disney and Pixar movies, this is another great movie to try out. I give it a 10 out of 10.
