Although many museums have closed and performances have been canceled because of COVID-19, there are still many options to experience these activities online, many of which were not available before and probably would not have happened otherwise.
For those that have been robbed of their graduation experience, there will be a Facebook Live event on Friday, May 15 at 2 p.m. filled with celebrities celebrating the class of 2020’s graduation. The event will feature Miley Cyrus performing “The Climb” as well as a commencement speech by Oprah Winfrey.
Billboard is hosting a Live At Home series where different artists perform live on Billboard’s Facebook page. The mini-concerts consist of the artists performing some of their songs, answering fan questions and raising money for the non-profit charity of their choice. Each week features guests, and H.E.R., Jason Mraz, Vanessa Carlton and many more have already hosted. The performances are usually at 12 p.m. every day, but you can see the updating schedule on their website: Billboard Live.
On the comedy side, Mike Birbiglia goes live on Instagram with other comedians to write jokes together and just talk. He has gone live with people like John Mulaney, Nikki Glaser, Patton Oswalt and many more. He is using these streams to raise money for the venue staff of comedy clubs and theaters who have been laid off because of COVID-19. He usually goes live on Mondays and Wednesdays at 1 p.m. on his Instagram: @birbigs.
As for museums, the American Museum of Natural History has a virtual tour on their website that you can control. If you like to go even more in-depth, they also have guided tours on Facebook Live that are also available to watch after they are done. Although no one can enjoy any of these experiences in person right now, there are still ways to entertain yourself while staying safe at home. And with all the new live shows happening and more and more virtual tours being made, there are even more ways to feel connected at home than before.
