New beginnings for Butler softball

This offseason, two new assistant coaches, former players Kenzie Young and Morgan Bohanan, from the 2017 National Championship team, began working for the Butler softball team.

Young, a Derby native who received All-American honors in both her freshman and sophomore seasons here at Butler, is one of the additions.

“Kenzie Young was what I like to call a grinder,” Coach Doug Chance said on the Athletics website. “She was a tough gritty player that always expected more out of herself. I believe she will raise the level of expectations and help to hold players to a higher standard of daily effort.”

Bohanan, a Goddard native, transferred to Butler after playing four games her freshman year at the University of Kansas. She suffered a season-ending shoulder injury. Once she recovered, she played in 52 games for the Grizzlies and was named to the NFCA NJCAA Division I All-America First Team, First Team All-Jayhawk Conference Division I selection, and helped lead Butler to the 2016 NJCAA National Championship.
