The Butler women’s basketball team picked up their second win of the season and first KJCCC win with a blowout 86-56 victory over Colby Community College on Wednesday, Jan. 27. With the win, the Grizzlies have now won 17 straight matchups with the Trojans, dating back to February 18, 2011. Freshman Kaylee Nero caught the eyes of many as she went for a game high 18 points and nine rebounds off the bench. She was also a perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe.
Sophomore guard Skyla Knight put in quality minutes as she compiled 12 points, six assists, four rebounds and three steals on the night. Sophomore forward Paris Mullins contributed 12 points and six boards while freshman guard/forward Cymirah Williams posted a season high 11 points and eight rebounds. All-American Tamara Nard, a sophomore and center/forward, finished as the leading rebounder on the night with 10, three blocks, three assists and six points.
As a team, Butler did not shoot the ball particularly well, connecting on 45% of their shots but held Colby to just 29% from the floor. The Trojans also struggled from deep, connecting on just 3-20 from beyond the arc and 17-32 from the free throw line. The Grizzlies also outrebounded the Trojans 48-29, including 20 on the offensive glass.
