Katie’s Korner: Italian Style Pinwheels

Supporting yourself can be difficult, especially trying to make meals. In this column, I am going to feature meals that are both simple and affordable, demonstrating step-by-step instruction along with pictures. 

Italian Style Pinwheels 

Prep time: 20 min 

Servings: 15 

Refrigerate: 1 hour 

– This meal is meant to be served cold. 

Ingredients (Walmart prices)  

TOTAL-  $13.55(not including tax) 

  • 3 large Mama Lupe’s flour tortillas- $2.48 
  • 7 oz hard natural salami- $2.98 
  • 7 oz pepperoni slices- $2.24 
  • 9 slices Great Value provolone cheese- $1.84  

Cream cheese spread: 

  • 8 oz Great Value Cream cheese (softened)- $0.80 
  • ¾ cup sweet red peppers- $1.74  
  • ¾ cup banana peppers- $1.47  

Instructions 

  1. First, you are going to chop your red and banana peppers till you get 3/4th cup. You can also just eyeball it until you feel like it is enough. 
  1. After you have chopped your pepper, take your softened cream cheese, and put it in a small bowl incorporating your peppers until you get a creamy mixture. 
  1. Next take one large tortilla of large or small size. Smooth on your mixture till thin or thick to the edges of the tortilla. 
  1. When you have the mixture on the tortilla, place three or more slices of salami, two slices of provolone cheese and eight slices of pepperonis.  
  1. Next, you are going to roll one side of the tortilla into itself tightly.  
  1. Finally, when you have it rolled, cut the roll into two-inch slices. 

For bolder flavors you can add:  

  • Italian breadcrumbs  
  • Green leaf lettuce   
  • Salt 
  • Pepper 

Leftovers: 

With the remainder of the Pinwheels, store it in an airtight container and place it in the fridge. (Do not heat up)
