The Department of Dance presents tonight’s showcase, “Wonderland,” starting at 7 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre. The department chose “Wonderland,” not because of the month of December and it is a winter wonderland, but because of the freedom to finally perform in front of a live audience.

“It is WONDERFUL we are getting to perform live, and everyone is thrilled to have this opportunity,” Professor of Vocal Music Valerie Mack said.

Fellow dance faculty, and couple, Deiondre and Kelsey Teagle, along with Mack, helped to arrange the dance showcase. Along with Chad Ingram and Matthew Udland, in vocal music, and Larry Patton and Nathan Huyett, in theater, will also assist. This performance will consist of 35 dancers and multiple theatre tech students running sounds and lights. Some musical numbers included in the program will be “You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch”, “Letters to Santa” and a clogging routine to “Feet Don’t Fail Me Now.” Throughout the show, the Smorgaschords and Notables (barbershop quartets) will also sing a few songs throughout the concert.

The dance department has been working with classes since the beginning of the semester. Many of the students have never had a dance class, so this is the first time many of the students have danced for an audience.

“Many of these students were also involved in the musical, “Pajama Game,” which was (Thursday,) Nov. 18- (Saturday, Nov.) 20 and vocal and instrumental concerts before that,” Mack said. “In other words, this has been a busy semester for Butler Fine Arts.”

Those interested in attending tonight’s showcase do not need to reserve tickets.
